Carmeuse performs both basic and applied research and development to ensure that lime technology meets the present and future needs of our customers.
With R&D facilities in Belgium, USA (Pittsburgh), Spain and Italy, a well-coordinated effort provides the very latest technology in many fields. Carmeuse is the technology leader in wet FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) chemistry, and in the application of flow-aided specialty blended products to assist the steel industry produce more steel from a ton of iron ore.
The North American Technology facility located in Pittsburgh PA provides a center for basic and applied R&D supporting the use of quicklime, hydrated lime and lime-water slurries. Staffed by an experienced and dedicated team, this technology center provides laboratory based R&D studies plus customer specific in-field application support. Projects range from basic chemistry and physical chemistry studies through to detailed surveys on product handling and storage issues.
The Pittsburgh Technology Center has state of the art analytical and research equipment including scanning electron microscope, induction coupled plasma spectrometry, atomic adsorption spectrometry, X-ray spectrometry, gas chromatography, particle size analysis and a full array of complementary chemical and physical analytical techniques.
