From Oct. 1-4, Carmeuse’s Luttrell Rangers mine-rescue team from the Luttrell, Tenn. operation participated in and won multiple awards in a mine rescue competition at the Missouri S&N center in Rolla, Mo.
The Luttrell Rangers placed first overall out of 16 teams from around the United States who competed. They also placed first in field, first out of district and fourth in first aid. The overall first-place finish means the team brought the Traveling Trophy to
Carmeuse for the second time since 1982.
Each year, multiple mine rescue competitions are held in different locations across the United States. These competitions are designed for teams to learn, execute and maintain required mine site emergency rescue skills for trapped or injured miners.

“We’re tremendously proud of our Luttrell Rangers and all of their accomplishments at the Rolla competition,” said Harold Collins, Site Operations Manager. “The skills that our team members learn and hone and then display at these competitions are very important. We hope to never have to use these rescue skills in a live situation, but it provides us with piece of mind that our team members are always well prepared.”
