On October 4, 2017, Carmeuse Lime & Stone’s Calcite plant hosted about 60 students from three schools in celebration of Manufacturing Day. This was also a celebration of a near century-old building at the plant that will be torn down soon.
Students from Posen and Rogers City high schools, as well as college students from Alpena Community College toured the plant from top to bottom and job shadowed some employees to learn what Carmeuse does and the uses for limestone and lime. They also got to see a piece of history before the building is taken down.
Some of the positions that students job shadowed include electrician, millwright, dock and lab technician, mechanic, equipment operator, pipefitter and engineer.
