Making Fun Summer Memories Thanks to Carmeuse Dundas

Making Fun Summer Memories Thanks to Carmeuse Dundas

Routes Youth Center in Dundas, Ontario, believes that all young people should have something exciting to say when asked the question: what did you do over summer break? But they also know not all families can afford the sort of adventures and experiences that many from more privileged backgrounds take for granted. This is especially true in times of economic uncertainty and high living costs.

Making summer break special for young people in marginalized and underprivileged households, the Routes team organizes summer field trips to local attractions. Last year, more than 60 young people aged 8-14 years old went on outings to the local community pool, the trampoline park, and the skating park. This year the field trips are supported by the Carmeuse Dundas Operation, with a donation of $1,000 to help cover the costs.

“On the practical level, the trips allow young people to develop life skills, such as navigating public transit and interacting with other community members,” said Sylvia Alvarez, Human Resources—Carmeuse Dundas. “But most importantly, these field trips present a chance for youth to try new things and make new memories with their peers—a life-shaping experience for every young person.”
