Carmeuse Maysville aims to inspire career paths for Women in Manufacturing

Three members of the Carmeuse Maysville Operation, Kentucky, recently joined the Women in Manufacturing careers day at Maysville Community and Technical College. Lisa Wellman, Scotty Hawks, and Sean Campbell attended the event, bringing along the Carmeuse simulator to provide visitors a taste of what it’s like handling some of the heavy equipment used at the company’s quarries.

The Women in Manufacturing event was aimed at female students from Grades 8 to 12 from the area’s high schools. It provides young women the opportunity to hear the experiences and advice of women in manufacturing roles—including how they got there and what career paths are possible. There was also an informational rotation where students could speak to representatives of local companies and understand where they could fit it.

“In the 21st Century, the manufacturing sector cannot afford to remain a man’s world,” said Maysville’s Wellman. “It was a privilege to come to this event and meet potential Carmeuse team members of the future. Hopefully, many of those who attended will be inspired to pursue a career in this vital sector.”
