Carmeuse Cancer Crushers participate in first Relay for Life

The Carmeuse Cancer Crushers team recently participated in its first Relay for Life event in support of the American Cancer Society. Comprising employees and family members from the Carmeuse Middleton, Strasburg, and Winchester Operations, the team has currently mobilized over $4,000 for the fight against cancer.

The Relay for Life of Winchester/Frederick County took place on September 15th at the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Events Center at Shenandoah University. The Carmeuse Cancer Crusher Team, led by Terri Aikens of Carmeuse Winchester, raised the second-highest amount of the 16 teams taking part with $4,302 so far donated.

The Relay for Life movement supports the mission of the American Cancer Society, which has been working to improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families since 1913. In addition to its research into cancer prevention, detection and treatment, the society advocates for lifesaving policy changes, promotes healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer, and provides information and support to people whose lives have been changed by cancer.

“The American Cancer Society does life-changing work in its mission to end cancer for everyone,” said Carmeuse Cancer Crushers team leader Terri Aikens. “We are proud to be even a small part of these efforts, knowing that, in the battle with cancer, every dollar counts.”
