Produced from high quality natural ores at 8 facilities in North America, Carmeuse’s milled limestone products are used in a variety of industrial applications offering affordable and versatile solutions including use in the oil and gas industry.
Milled limestone is one of the most versatile minerals used in the oil & gas industry today. Because of its high specific gravity along with its acid solubility, it is a preferred component in the following drilling fluid applications
Reservoir Drilling Fluids or “drill-in” fluids
Milled limestone is added to:
- form a “bridge” or “filter cake” over formation pores
- prevent migration of particles into the reservoir
- removed with acid or chelant at a later stage
Lost Circulation Fluid
- Milled limestone builds a filter cake at the entrance of the fracture to seal it up
Acid-Soluble Cement
- Milled limestone is a component of the cement
- After frac’ing, broken cement pieces plug casing holes
- Pump acid into casing to dissolve the limestone in the cement pieces
Features:
- Milled or screened
- Limestone or marble
- High specific gravity (Relative Density)
- Particle size distribution designed for optimum particle packing
- Acid soluble
- Readily available
Advantages:
- Densifies drilling fluid
- Controls circulation loss
- Prevents formation damage
Benefits:
- Safe
- Cost effective
- Versatile
- Environmentally friendly
